Dirección Xeral de Montes

The Dirección Xeral is the Directorate which, within the Regional Government of Galicia, holds the mandate over the management, promotion and improvement forests™ production and over the industrialization and commercialization of primary processing products from wood. Moreover it holds the mandate from the central authorities over the definition and application of measures to prevent and combat forest fires.

The Dirección Xeral is responsible for the conservation and development of the forest resources, for the regulation and management of their use and for any other functions legally established in connection with the defense and protection of forests in Galicia. Within the scope of its actions, it carries out studies and analysis on the causes of forest fires and of their impact on the environment. Moreover, it co-ordinates and decides on the means to protecting the forests against fires. In the persecution of these the Dirección Xeral pays special attention to the sustainability of the actions and the respect of the environment and the Galician biodiversity. In short, it is responsible for the activities and policies related to Forests, Agriculture and Rural Environment.
